Description

This breakout session is intended for participants that want to learn about the four academic disciplines of Ethnic Studies.

This session will cover the history of Ethnic Studies disciplines in California higher education, how they have challenged systemic institutional racism and expanded the mission of our educational institutions. The focus will be on students, faculty, and community of the four interdisciplinary fields of study -- Black Studies, Chicana/o Studies, Asian Americans Studies, and American Indian Studies. The disciplines of Ethnic Studies have had a transformative impact on our campus and surrounding communities in advancing antiracist education and community activism.

The goal of this breakout session will be to offer ideas for how you can help support the current work surrounding the expanding role of the academic disciplines of Ethnic Studies at your local institutions.
